The Argonaut Science Fair is coming soon! All our budding and curious minds put on your scientist hats and showcase your Science Projects on Wednesday, 28th Feb 2024 – SO SAVE THE DATE! This year the theme will be “STEM based - Be a problem solver” The kids can pick any topic that solves problem by any of the STEM based solutions.

This is a chance for kids to develop interest and increase awareness in science and learn some fascinating and fun activities about science and our environment. While participation in the Science Fair is voluntary, it is a great opportunity for students to come together as a group or individual and encourage participation from all grades K to 5.

Students must do the work themselves, but we encourage parents to guide the kids in selecting and supporting them through the process. We encourage the kids to work together in groups if possible so they can learn together.

This year we are providing some topics as suggestions for kids to handle this year’s theme of the fair so they can learn to solve some common or complex problems scientifically.  Suggested Topics (these are just suggestions please feel free to explore other topics but try to stick to the theme).  Be a problem solver, how to solve the problem of:

Grade K

a) How to grow plants without soil? - think of alternatives.

b) How to practice safe health routine to avoid spread of infectious disease

Grade 1

a) Solve the problem of clean and safe water or how to solve the problem of hard water.

b) Stop apple oxidation.

c) How to prevent metal rusting/oxidation.

Grade 2

a) Living without electricity - research about alternatives.

b) How to recognize the time day or night, without using a watch or clock.

Grade 3

a) How to solve problem of soil erosion or coastal erosion.

b) Investigating prevention of infectious diseases.

c) How to solve problem of deforestation.

Grade 4

a) Solving growing city’s infrastructure challenges with growing population.

b) Building earthquake resistant structures.

c) What to do without electricity?  Build projects with ideas on using something other than traditional electricity.

Grade 5 – Will be showcasing “Invention Convention Projects”.

Please note: The final project should reflect student/group’s effort and design. Parents should also supervise their child closely during any stages involving potentially hazardous materials as chemicals, electricity, moving parts, live animals or biological materials.

To participate, a student or group must submit a complete REGISTRATION FORM NO LATER THAN 26TH JANUARY, FRIDAY 2024 – Note: Every group member needs to submit a registration form, even if it is a group project.

FOR 5th GRADERS ONLY - This year 5th graders will be participating in Invention Convention, so please ask Miss. Kannberg regarding any details or instructions.

The science boards will be available in the school office following submission of the completed registration form, from 29th January 2024 to 16th Feb 2024 – DO NOT FORGET TO COLLECT YOUR SCIENCE BOARDS FROM SCHOOL OFFICE, examples on how to use the Science Board is shared below:
