FAQs:  I want to know …

How can my child participate in Argo’s Got Talent”?

Participation in the Variety Show has only three requirements:

  • Student Registration
  • Mandatory attendance for ALL previews and rehearsals
  • Parent volunteering

Who needs to register?

The Variety Show is open to all students, grades TK-5 who want to participate. Only 4th and 5th graders may sign up for MC/Announcer OR Backstage Crew - AND ONLY if they are NOT participating in any individual or group act.

Where do I go to register for the Variety Show?

Each participant MUST register separately.  If you are doing a group performance, all members must sign up individually.

Can my child register for more than one act?

Every student can only register for one act.

The ONLY exceptions are for students who will be participating in the TK/Kinder Act and Fifth Grade Finale who are welcome to sign up for any ONE act in addition to their class act (Kinder/5th Grade finale).  Please see FAQ below, for definition of Kinder and 5th Grade performances.

Please note that if you are doing a group performance, all members must sign up individually on the Google form.

How long can my child’s performance be?

All Acts must be 2 MINUTES OR LESS in length. NO EXCEPTIONS!

During the Previews, the Variety Show Committee members will time your child’s act.  Even if the act is a second more than 2 minutes, you will be asked to reduce it to 2 mins or less.

Can my child sign up to be an Announcer/MC? What will they have to do?

Announcers must be in grades 4-5 and may NOT be enrolled in any other act (excluding 5th Grade Finale).  As an MC or Announcer, their job is to host the Variety show. In this role, they will be required to address the audience by memorizing or reading out from a script between acts and introducing performers.

Order of registration will be used to determine who gets limited spots for Announcer.

Can my child sign up to be a Backstage helper? What will they have to do?

Backstage crew must be in 4th-5th grade and may NOT be enrolled in any other act except 5th Grade Finale.

Backstage helpers work alongside parent backstage volunteers in opening/closing the curtain, bringing in and out the props/equipment, and making sure performers have the props, instruments, microphone that is needed.  In addition, they need to manage the run of show.

These spots are limited.  In case, we have more backstage helpers than we need, order of registration will be used to determine who gets limited spots for Backstage Crew.

What is a Kinder Act?

The Variety show will showcase an opening act by TK/Kindergarteners (called Kinder Act) in the Twilight Show.  This is a group performance, done by the entire grade where Kinder teachers teach and practice the act with the students.

No registration is required for the Kinder Act.

What is a 5th Grade Finale?

The Variety show will showcase a closing act performed by all the 5 graders (called 5th Grade Finale) in the Moonlight Show.  This is a group performance, done by the entire grade where class teachers and parent volunteers teach and practice the act with the students.

No registration is required for 5th Grade Finale.

Does my child need to attend both, 1st and 2nd Previews?

Previews are an extremely important part of the talent show experience! Your act should be ready for the stage at your first practice.  Participants will have the opportunity to practice on stage, get a fee for the space, microphone.  Committee members will be supervising and evaluating each act and will help participants refine their acts during these previews.

Does my child need to attend the Rehearsal?

Rehearsal attendance is MANDATORY. By Rehearsal Day, your Acts should be 100% ready!! Our directors will give advice to fine-tune the acts if needed.  On this day, we will do a dry run of the show, in its entirety! We will also have our lights and sound vendors present. This means that all students will perform as if this is the live show.

Where do I submit the music file?

All music must be in MP3 format, edited to 2 minutes or less. Music needs to be emailed to the directors by before the due date given above If your child's act requires music....

Submit your Music here

Please DO NOT bring a music CD to the preview.

Review music lyrics carefully and make sure it is school appropriate.  The Directors have final authority on what is appropriate for the Variety Show.

Can parents come on the day of the Rehearsal?

Parents are not allowed on the day of the Rehearsal unless volunteering for Backstage or for Row Monitor.

What Props/Equipment will the school provide?

You must bring all props/equipment/ instruments necessary to perform your act except for PIANO, which will be provided by the school.  Staff will not be responsible for any instrument you bring from home.

Can my child and other performers in their group act use the MPR for practicing?

Students are not allowed to use the MPR for any practicing of their Acts.

What happens if I cannot volunteer?

The task of putting on the Variety Show is VOLUNTEER labor intensive, so all participants' parents MUST help!  There are both small and large jobs available to fit your schedule!

If for some reason, you are not cleared to volunteer, you can opt for any remote role (if available) for which clearance is not required.

Only parents/guardians of the participants can volunteer.  As per the school policy, older siblings of the performers CANNOT volunteer in lieu of the parent/guardian.

Other points to remember:

  • Parents are not allowed to perform or be on stage or backstage during their child’s act.
  • Your costumes must be modest, school appropriate, and approved by the advisors.
