The Math Olympiad program is back for the 2023-24 year! Your child is invited to join the PTA-Sponsored Math Olympiad program at Argonaut.

What is the Argonaut Math Olympiad Program?

Your child is invited to join the PTA-sponsored Math Olympiad program at Argonaut. This program is appropriate for all Argonaut 4th and 5th graders, and many 3rd graders (see below). Argonaut has a long history of success in this world-wide program, organized and run by a group of dedicated Argonaut parents who volunteer their time and effort. The program will launch in mid-Sept 2023 and end in the third week of March 2024 (approximately 21 weeks excluding holidays etc). The program will online, parent-led instruction and interactive elements (exercises, submissions, etc) augmented by some in-person classes, tests etc. The Math Olympiad contests will likely be administered in-person, but they can be online as circumstances require. As always, the precise contours of the program continue to be shaped by the inputs of volunteers and parents involved.

With continued reliance on online instruction, parent involvement is particularly crucial to the program.

Note to parents of third-graders: if you are considering enrolling your third-grader, please note: the program is open to third-graders and appropriate for many, but not all third-graders may yet be ready to participate. At the same time, some third-graders flourish and go on to do very well in the program. For this reason, we conduct a preliminary evaluation to help you assess whether the program is suitable for your child. Following the assessment, we will advise you whether you should join the program this year or wait; however we will leave the final choice to you. Please go ahead and register, and we will contact you about the evaluation.

Registration is now CLOSED.

For those of you who have participated before, the program needs no introduction. If you are new to Math Olympiad, here is a quick introduction to the program. The goals of the program are:

- To stimulate enthusiasm and a love for Mathematics

- To introduce important Mathematical concepts and major strategies for problem solving

- To develop Mathematical flexibility in solving problems

- To strengthen Mathematical intuition

- To foster Mathematical creativity and ingenuity

- To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges

The Argonaut MO program is designed for Argonaut students who enjoy learning more advanced concepts in Math and who would like to be challenged. The curriculum for this program is different from the regular classroom Math curriculum. It is not essential to enroll your child in this program for the purpose of academic achievement. Participating in the Math Olympiad program is completely voluntary and requires a time commitment and an enthusiasm towards learning Math. Please discuss with your child whether he/her is interested prior to enrollment. That said, the MO program has been wildly popular and hugely successful, and we believe it brings significant benefits to Argonaut students. Over the years, many generations of Argonauts have achieved spectacular success at State and National-level contests.
